Managing the Storage Quota for SharePoint Online

Recently i have found an interesting webinar from Microsoft Virtual Academy that describes storage quota in SharePoint Online. I will try to summarize that content based from my experiance.

  • SharePoint Online: software boundaries and limits:

  • Manage the Recycle Bin of a SharePoint site collection

  • Enable and configure versioning for a list or library

Steps to managing space

Go to “Site Collection Administration/Storage Metric” to determinate usage of site collection and check the Recycle Bin and Version Settings.

The options are:

  • Purchase more storage
  • Empty Site Collection Recycle Bin
  • Document Library Version Settings

Empty Recycle Bins

They reside in site collection

  • User’s Recycle Bins

–Only items deleted by the current user

  • Site Collection Recycle Bins

–All items deleted by all users

  • Items not manually emptied will automatically be removed after 90 days

Call of Duty: Black Ops features 3D support

According to Kotaku, Activision has announced that Call of Duty: Black Ops will feature support for stereoscopic 3D visuals on 3D-ready HDTVs and Nvidia 3D Vision-ready PCs that use active shutter 3D glasses.

The first-person shooter’s Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC editions will offer both 3D and non-3D modes when the game launches in November. Call of Duty: Black Ops for Wii, and other platforms will not include support for stereoscopic 3D.

Developer Treyarch says it began working on stereoscopic 3D support as a research and development project but eventually felt it would be appropriate to the series. Players will be able to see the 3D effects while aiming with their weapons’ sights, flying in helicopters, rappelling down mountains, and in other activities.

Call of Duty: Black Ops’ 3D setting is presented as a menu option that players can choose to enable or disable at any time whether they’re in the single-playing campaign, multiplayer matches, or the recently confirmed Zombie mode.

“Development of stereoscopic 3D began as an R&D project, but once we saw what the technology brought to the Call of Duty experience, what a great fit and how immersive it was, we knew that we had to develop it for Black Ops,” says Treyarch studio head Mark Lamia.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to hit store shelves on November 9 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC.

Find out Who Is Using Your Computer and When In Windows 7

In this post, I am going to show you how to find who is using your computer and for how much time. I can find at least three reasons why this can be very useful:

  • You want to control the usage of your computer; maybe your children spend too much time in front of it—even when you are not home.
  • You are running a server, with this I mean a computer that cannot be shutdown, and you want to know if it’s up and running.
  • You want to control your own usage—sometimes is very useful to have statistic about this.

Some might say that using Parental Controls is easy to block the access to a computer at some hours, but we are not trying to block anything.

If you have read in some of my previous posts you have noticed that for many tasks you have the programs installed by default with your Operating Systems. This post is written for Windows 7 and I am going to use Task Scheduler to achieve the goal.

Launch Task Scheduler

Press WinKey, and search for Task Scheduler.

Click Task Scheduler.

Create The Task

Click Task Scheduler Library.

On the right pane select Create Task and select the General tab.

If you are using it on a server check Run whether user is logged or not.

On Triggers tab, click New:

Select On a schedule:

Selecting daily, and repeating the task every 5 minutes for 1 day makes the application run forever (which is what we want.)

Now we have to specify the action we want to start

The program is a command prompt, we can launch the program using cmd. As arguments we type:

/c echo %username%,%time%,%date% >> UpTime.csv

In start in we select the path what we want that the task store the information in our case:

Now we only have to open to see the information:

And see the result:

The name of our user is User (sorry for the simplicity.) Even though the task is very useful, it has one drawback, have you noticed it? More importantly, do you know how to improve that

Microsoft: 6 Million downloads of IE9 beta in two weeks

Microsoft said on Friday that since the launch of Internet Explorer 9 beta, two weeks ago, the software giant has recorded six million downloads.

Internet Explorer 9 beta made its debut on September 15 to a fanfare of Gorillaz appearances and anticipation of Microsoft’s new look browser. The next generation browser has received a warm welcome from tech enthusiasts, developers and the media. The browser has been so popular that it has grabbed 0.25% of browser market share in just two weeks.

“Two weeks after IE9 Beta launch, we continue to see great reactions from our customers. As of today, IE9 Beta has been downloaded 6 million times, which is two and half times what we saw with IE8 Beta in a similar timeframe”, wrote Ryan Gavin, Senior Director of Internet Explorer Business and Marketing.

Microsoft has targeted developers in a heavy way with Internet Explorer 9. IE 9 takes advantage of the power of the GPU for all page rendering and developers can exploit this using CSS, DHTML and javascript. A new JS engine (codenamed Chakra) is also built into Internet Explorer 9 with greater interoperability and standards support all round. Features such as rounded corner CSS support are now built in.

Microsoft has also introduced broader support for HTML5 in IE9 through its new script engine. Microsoft recently performed W3C Web Standards tests on IE9, including HTML5, SVG 1.1 2nd edition, CSS3 media queries, CSS3 borders & backgrounds, CSS3 selectors, DOM level 3 core, DOM level 3 events and DOM level 2 style. Microsoft’s IE9 is the first and only browser to deliver full hardware acceleration of all HTML5 content. Other competitors, including Mozilla and Google, are planning select hardware acceleration but at the moment Internet Explorer 9 wins hands down.

Microsoft, with the help of W3C, performed a total of 2,138 tests on a variety of browsers. Internet Explorer 9 scored above 90% in average across all tests, while every other browser, except Safari 5 and Chrome 5 didn’t come close to scoring 90% or above in any of the test categories. Microsoft is expected to issue a second beta of Internet Explorer 9 at its Professional Developers Conference in October later this month. Internet Explorer 9 is expected to become broadly available in early 2011.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

It’s official: the undead are rising once more for Call of Duty: Black Ops. As reported by Computer and Video Games, Treyarch announced today that the popular zombie feature is back, confirming what it calls one of the “worst kept secrets.” The return was teased yesterday on the game’s website,

Four players will be able to face the onslaught in co-op, and the developer promises some fresh twists along the way. “We’ve taken extra special care to retain the essential ingredients of our Zombie game, and have also crafted a nice surprise for the fans,” said Treyarch boss Mark Lamia.

The feature was unofficially revealed earlier in the week when it was shown in several retail listings for the strategy guide, as well as in a press release for the book. It was also exposed in a Best Buy Canada listing for the Prestige and Hardened editions of the upcoming game.

The zombie-shooting mode was first included in Treyarch’s previous title, 2008’s Call of Duty: World at War. “Zombies have been such a hit with our community that we were committed to bringing brand new zombie experiences to Call of Duty: Black Ops.”

Call of Duty: Black Ops is set to hit store shelves on November 9 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii and PC.
