Managing the Storage Quota for SharePoint Online

Recently i have found an interesting webinar from Microsoft Virtual Academy that describes storage quota in SharePoint Online. I will try to summarize that content based from my experiance.

Prerequisites

  • SharePoint Online: software boundaries and limits:

  • Manage the Recycle Bin of a SharePoint site collection

  • Enable and configure versioning for a list or library

Steps to managing space

Go to “Site Collection Administration/Storage Metric” to determinate usage of site collection and check the Recycle Bin and Version Settings.

The options are:

  • Purchase more storage
  • Empty Site Collection Recycle Bin
  • Document Library Version Settings

Empty Recycle Bins

They reside in site collection

  • User’s Recycle Bins

–Only items deleted by the current user

  • Site Collection Recycle Bins

–All items deleted by all users

  • Items not manually emptied will automatically be removed after 90 days
